The Company
Theatre East is in its 10th Season and in that time the company has produced 8 critically acclaimed Main Stage Productions, hosted over 40 public readings through the Neighborhood Reading Series, presented 3 seasons of the 5X5 Drama Series, and as Theatre Critic Cindy Pierre of Stage and Cinema wrote, “Judson Jones and Christa Kimlicko Jones have founded Theatre East to bridge differences in our community and tackle subjects that are universal.”

The Community
Theatre East has vowed to “give theatre back to the people one play a time”. This is done by always offering affordable tickets to Main Stage Productions made possible by generous donors, and through it’s 5X5 Drama Series and Neighborhood Reading Series, both of which are done strictly on a donation basis.

We truly believe in complex stories simply told. But that doesn’t mean they’re cheaply told. And we can get there with your help.
Some things to consider:
One, we are a nonprofit. We take that trust seriously. And while we could pursue more commercially advantageous material, we believe we have a greater responsibility. Michael Kaiser, the former president of the Kennedy Center, said, “If arts organizations do not take risk, they cannot create the next great work of art. If not-for-profit arts organizations begin to think like for-profit entertainment companies, we will not produce the next generation of great playwrights, composers, artists and choreographers.”
Two, because we’re a nonprofit we rely heavily on support from the public. Statistically, individual donors make up 73% of the total budget for nonprofits. And at this point, as you can see, almost 75% of every dollar you give to Theatre East goes directly into productions.
Three, theatre that delves into the political or social realm all too often chooses to do so with a set, dogmatic agenda. We find the gray area much more fascinating, representative, and complex than the black or white. It’s this complexity we want to have a dialogue about, and your contribution can make it possible.
Volunteering
Running a theatre company is a lot of work! From creation of newsletters to ushering shows to helping with event check-in to bookkeeping to fundraising campaign support, we have a myriad of volunteer opportunities. Although Theatre East has a staff, they are still many opportunities for volunteer support and assistance. Whether you would like to make a one-time commitment or an on-going commitment, we would love for you to get involved.
